Welcome to August and our new topic: Into The Light. Our oil is Melissa, the oil of Light, which reminds us of who we really are, and helps us to release anything that is holding us back from reaching our fullest potential. It will be a fun contrast to what we covered last month in looking at the darker things that drive us. Our book is You Are The Placebo by Dr Joe Dispenza, which will help us along this path. We can’t wait to see how you all thrive with these tools and anchors, showing you the way. As an extra bonus, we are doing to watch Lucy starring Scarlett Johansson.
So first to our definitions..
Light is defined as:
The natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible.
An expression in someone’s eyes, indicating a particular emotion of mood.
We love both of those. And we think you will have things, states or ideas that pop into your head when you hear the word “light”. Regardless of what you may think of, light is something that most living things need to thrive and grow.
So before we go any further into this month, take a moment to think on what light means to you. As you know, taking a moment to get clear on your definitions is always worth the effort.
One of the things that brings many of us to the light is connection. Connection with ourselves- whether that be through meditation, musing or simply taking time to daydream, and connection with others. In these days of either wearing masks, being ordered to stay at home, or scurrying quickly past each other (at a metre and a half away) making connection and seeing the light in another person’s eyes can be a challenge.
This week we would love you to do a couple of things:
First of all, have a look at Susan Pinker’s Ted Talk on the importance of social integration.
Secondly we want you to have a go at the little exercise from Positive Psychology we will go through on the podcast. It might feel a little uncomfortable, as many of us have learnt to hide or downplay our emotions, but we think the time is right for us to make sure we are nailing eye contact and non verbal communication. Especially if the people you are talking to are wearing masks.
Remember that we know from the studies on rapport that when people who are in love stare into each other’s eyes, their heart rates synchronise, and the research from the Heart Math Institute tells us that “the heartbeat, breathing, and energetic communication between the subjects began to synchronise upon conversation, touch, and nonverbal communication. The results of these experiments have led us to conclude that the nervous system acts as an antenna, which is tuned to and responds to the magnetic fields produced by the hearts of other individuals. My colleagues and I call this energetic information exchange energetic communication and believe it to be an innate ability that heightens awareness and mediates important aspects of true empathy and sensitivity to others.”
So it sounds like mastering the light in each other’s eyes could be a simple, yet necessary way that we can shine a light and lead the way forward for the people around us.
Let’s light up the world!
