We hope you have had some time to think about Wellness. It’s something that we tend to refer to often, and yet, we often don’t put much thought into what wellness is, how we get it, or even how we measure being well. Until it goes missing of course. When we aren’t well, this “little” thing completely takes over our lives.
One way to begin to consolidate your thoughts on Wellness might be to compartmentalise a little. Now we know this flies in the face of holism, but bear with us for a moment. If we look back to some of the definitions of health, then we see that there are three or four categories that get referred to depending on who you read.
In the chiropractic world, we often refer to the three legs: physical, chemical and emotional health, speaking about how each of these areas must be investigated if we are to reach optimum function. Often when we think of wellbeing (or health) we think of physical health as being our main concern, as it is the outward displays of wellness-or lack of it- that are most dramatic. A broken leg is much easier to notice than a broken brain. And a broken leg is often much easier to work with, so we choose to look at this more often, further cementing this idea, and potentially neglecting the area(s) that underpin our wellness.
We would like to contend that there are actually eight legs (or categories) of wellness: spiritual, mental, physical, family, social, professional, wayshowership and manifestation, for of course these are the eight life areas, and they are what life is comprised of. So wellbeing must have some component of each of them.
When we delve a little deeper into the wellness well, we might notice that it is our body chemistry that determines how each of these life areas are integrating in our lives. We will chat more about this on the podcast, but for now we would love you to have a think about how your internal chemistry affects each life area. For example, are you able to be present with those around you (family and society) if you are in a stressed state? Do you perform at your professional best when you are in a depressed or repressed state? Can you connect on a spiritual level when you are overwhelmed and feel like you don’t have time to spend time in spiritual practice?
As you are considering the effect of your body chemistry on your wellness, you may also be noticing what optimum function looks like for you in each of these areas. We all have highs and lows, and as we will discuss in the podcast, being at your optimum state is where we create the energy of light- that point where the negative and positive are in harmony. The more you can recognise what this looks and feels like for you, the more you can create it.
This week we would love you to take some time to jot down what your high, low and favourite state is for each of your life areas. As always, recognising what that is, is the key to creating more and more and more of it. Then all that is left is to allow opportunities for that to unfold.
We can’t wait to hear what well is for you, and how you will be diving into the wellness well.
