Well here we are- our last week of Love it or Leave it, and we hope you have had some insightful moments, looking at what your life is composed of, and what habits, people and behaviours you’d like have travel with you into your next month.
There’s a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson that we love, “Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not.” And we think this applies to our task for this week: our THINGS.
If you have already read Kondo’s book on tidying, a you’ll know that she talks a lot about getting very clear on what truly brings us joy. So even though she is speaking about our material possessions, this theme can be applied to all of our life areas. Is your life really full of things that you like or even love? Or do you have a list of shoulds, musts, and have tos that clutter your brain.
Ralph’s quote is pertinent here, because when we don’t feel beautiful from the inside, it’s harder to find beauty outside. We have a tendency to keep on adding things rather that subtracting, to try and get that feeling of beauty.
But we know better than that don’t we? We know that healing on all levels is an inside-out job, and adding more stuff- whether it be another pair of shoes for our wardrobe to hold, or another 5kgs to our bodies- won’t get us any closer to the joyful life we crave.
This week we would love you to start small. We know the KonMari Method is about clearing a whole area of “like” things (like your entire wardrobe), and we don’t want to suggest that this isn’t an excellent way to do it, but we also want you to get some runs on the board. So if you can do it her way: GO FOR IT!
If you can’t imagine yourself getting success there, why don’t you choose something simple TODAY to get started? The lightness and the success you feel in organising just one drawer will spur you on, and then you can read her book and tackle the whole house, one chunk at a time.
Give yourself a moment right now to sip your lemongrass tea, imagine a clutter free house that breathes joy, and make a plan. Maybe you could list the order in which you’d love to cleanse, and put each section in the diary. Do it with a reasonable time-frame, and in six months you’ll have the whole place sorted and you will LOVE everything you see.
Out with it!
