Frozen (The Movie)

Frozen (The Movie)

Yes, this month the book is a movie! To go with our theme of Let It Go…

Here are some of our notes from Book Club.. we have created some questions for you to think on in italics below.

Magic was initially good and fun and to be shared.

Until it got out of control (shock).

Then it was something to be ashamed of and even feared.

“Conceal it, don’t feel it. Don’t let it show.”

Notice the paradox of the magic: it was both beautiful and dangerous.

Fear is the enemy for Elsa, and she must learn to control the magic.

Elsa was locked away to hide her power (with shame) and to limit any chance of getting out of control.

Are there times when you dimmed your light or hid away something of your own because you were afraid?

Elsa’s Dad: telling her to “calm down” when he was fearful her powers were to be unleashed.

Have you ever been told the same thing?

The Weasletown Mayor Calling Elsa a monster because he didn’t understand her power, and was hence fearful. Also possibly having an ulterior motive.

Have you experienced people being afraid of things they don’t understand?

Elsa when she is free: The Let It Go song: how happy she seems being in her power.

“The fear that once controlled me.”

No rules.

She tests herself and sees she can create beauty.

Enjoying being herself, and mastering her talents.

She is longer fearful of her true power.

Depicted as being almost momentarily evil when in her power.

Have you ever taken on the opinions of others regarding your power?

Lyrics for Let It Go:

(We have bolded the parts we think are interesting)

The snow glows white on the mountain tonight

Not a footprint to be seen

A kingdom of isolation

And it looks like I'm the queen

The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside

Couldn't keep it in, heaven knows I've tried

Don't let them in, don't let them see

Be the good girl you always have to be

Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know

Well, now they know

Let it go, let it go

Can't hold it back anymore

Let it go, let it go

Turn away and slam the door

I don't care what they're going to say

Let the storm rage on

The cold never bothered me anyway

It's funny how some distance makes everything seem small

And the fears that once controlled me can't get to me at all

It's time to see what I can do

To test the limits enough the air into the ground

My soul is spiralling in frozen fractals all around

And one thought crystallises like an icy blast

I'm never going back, the past is in the past

Let it go, let it go

When I'll rise like the break of dawn

Let it go, let it go

That perfect girl is gone

Here I stand in the light of day

Let the storm rage on

The cold never bothered me anyway break through

No right, no wrong, no rules for me

I'm free

Let it go, let it go

I am one with the wind and sky

Let it go, let it go

You'll never see me cry

Here I stand and here I stay

Let the storm rage on

My power flurries through the air into the ground

My soul is spiralling in frozen fractals all around

And one thought crystallises like an icy blast

I'm never going back, the past is in the past

Let it go, let it go

When I'll rise like the break of dawn

Let it go, let it go

That perfect girl is gone

Here I stand in the light of day

Let the storm rage on

The cold never bothered me anyway

From the trolls:

People don’t really change.

Everyone is a “fixer upper”.

Do you think this? Do we change? What is the difference between a fixer-upper and changing?

Troll song:

We're not sayin' you can change him

'Cause people don't really change

We're only saying that love's a force

That's powerful and strange

People make bad choices

If they're mad, or scared, or stressed

Throw a little love their way

Throw a little love their way

And you'll bring out their best

True love brings out the best

“An act of true love will thaw a frozen heart.”

Interesting, to think on this: Where can you utilise this information… coming from a position of love rather than stress or fear?

Olaf’s definition of love: Love is putting someone else’s needs before your own.

Some ideas on love:

Love requires sacrifice.

That you can hurt or even kill people you love if you can’t control what is within you.

What is your definition of love?

The act of one true love: a sibling rather than a ‘lover’- nice to see a twist on the old trope.
