In the words of Bill Nighy from Love, Actually, “I can feel it in my fingers, I can feel it in my toes”. Bill was singing about love and Christmas, and hopefully you are feeling a little of that tingly, jingly Christmas magic, as you joyfully swan through the days of Christmas spreading good will among all (wo)men. If that’s the case for you, you are in a perfect position to assist others- it means you probably have space in your mind and heart to perform some acts of kindness and to calmly lead by example, soothing the frazzled nerves of the people you come across with your presence. Thank you: we need more of that.
We do know that December isn’t always filled with the sweetness of sugarplums and the serenity of gentle nights by the fireside (or languidly stretching out under the ceiling fans if you live in the Southern Hemisphere). Let’s face it: December can be a little jangly. And if you have things that you’ve pushed down this year, this could be the time when it can come bubbling out. Family issues, financial fears, unmet expectations, work stressors *insert your go-to stress here. When we add a dose of time constraints and garnish it with adrenaline, we can end up with the perfect Christmas cocktail of overwhelm.
Overwhelm has a variety of ways of sneaking into our lives when we are under duress, mainly because most of us are addicted to it in some way- it can keep us creating, make us strive to DO more, and allows us to see ourselves as less than. It can also make us buy more, drink more, eat more, and run old patterns more, to fill the holes. It seems that a lot of the external world is geared towards making sure we allow overwhelm back into our homes like a long lost friend.
So if you feel yourself opening the door to that sneaky little ghost of Christmas past this month, we would love you to NOTICE it, first and foremost. It’s tricky to dissolve our addictions if we can’t even see them. In the podcast this week we will be chatting about our best hacks on how to dismantle this little creep.
In the meantime we want you to think about our oil anchor of Christmas Joy and all it contains. We suspect the best way to bring ourselves back to the ghost of Christmas present is to use the blend to BE present.
Wild orange for abundance: What is true abundance for you?
Cinnamon for sensuality: What really gets you heart pumping?
Clove for boundaries: What do you want to say, “No” to?
Douglas Fir for generational healing: Which ancestor would you love a virtual hug from?
Be sure to take a moment this week to have a think about all of your past Christmases, along with the moments you are in right now.. And then dream a little about our little fave: the ghost of Christmas yet to come.
You have plenty of time to step into your most wondrous Christmas yet. If you choose to jingle all the way (say no to jangles).
