Quick Click #83: RAK 'em up
Can you feel it? As we round out November it can feel like the rapid approach of Christmas is like those time-lapse videos of trimming the tree that are currently on trend. Time seems to be sped up and we are hurtling along to that one day massive day, and it’s all about the destination. Which is one way of looking at it (if you choose). Here at CWC we absolutely love Christmas, and there’s a reason for that: we have designed it to play out just the way we like it. We have rituals in place that make Christmas en pointe for us.
And yet it is still possible to get caught off guard: saying yes to an event (or food or alcohol) where you really meant no, so you end up overfed or overscheduled. Which is well on the way to good ol’ destination overwhelm.
So before we go careening into the season, we would love you to take a breath and a moment to imagine how you would love this year to round out.
What are some of the things that you’d love to clear off your plate, and what would you love to keep on doing?
A wise friend of ours reminded us of the saying “Success is a journey, not as destination” but with a twist: she said, “The journey IS the destination”.
In a flash, this changes everything. If we make this shift in our thinking, all of a sudden it’s not about being somewhere or getting to the next thing, it’s about this moment. This breath. This smile. This kiss.
In this month’s book, Fulgham talks about doing good without anyone knowing. That idea we now call Random Acts of Kindness, which is often thought of as doing something lovely for someone else. Doing the RAK has a way of lifting our hearts and making us feel good. We imagine how the recipient will feel, and some of that loveliness flows back to us. We believe these RAK are imperative to do often, and from right here. Starting with you.
This week we would love you to take a moment to think about what you would really like. It could be a present (go online right now and buy it, and yes, it is a gift, so write yourself a love note on the card) or some self care, or simply the gift of some time out. You’ve probably already started thinking of something: act on it right now. If you are anything like most women your next thoughts will be to think of the reasons why you can’t have it or don’t really need it. We want you to stop that immediately. Kat Loterzo once said, “God doesn’t give you dreams you can’t have.” And it’s true. If you can dream it up that easily, then it’s yours.
You own it as soon as you claim it.
So breathe in a lite of our oil of Geranium and love and trust yourself enough to make time today to create a RAK. For you.
