Quick Click #115: The Night Night Project

Well hello there Night Owl,

How did you go with your list of fears? Did you find them to be real and scary and actually insurmountable, or when you looked at them in the cold hard light of day did they seem a little less daunting than your shadow self was making them out to be? (Pro Tip: Your shadow self might pretend to be part of you, but she’s actually an imposter).

We don’t mean to make light of your fears (well maybe a little: because after all, light is a pretty good way to kill most of our mouldy, germy little monsters) but we do dream of a day where you will be free to say what you really want for you, and then to be able to map out what next, enlist the help you need, and take that shaky first step.

We were talking about manifestation with one of our coaching chicks this week as she had created something, seemingly from nothing (other than her dream-self) and she did it with ease and flow. As a result we were asking her to identify the strategy she had used to get this dream out from the clutches of Mr Sandman, and into her daytime reality. Once she got clear on what her process was (focus specifically on the goal, make it big and bold, see it as done, know it is hers, take a small step in the direction, add the magic of time, have fun with it) we asked her to apply that to anything else she wanted in life.

*crickets*

Now this chick does want a whole lot of other cool things to come to fruition (we’ve seen her dream board), but she just couldn’t choose one. As we dug a little deeper, she came to the realisation that it was fear that was keeping her stuck in the hazy world of dreams.

Fear that she would choose the wrong thing,

Fear that her loved ones wouldn’t like the next thing,

Fear that it wouldn’t work out,

Fear that she didn’t really deserve true beauty, etcetera (and believe us when we say there was quite a list).

We used the strategy we shared with you last week: to take out a pen and paper, and actually write down what the fears were. Now we know that this flies in the face of what a lot of the manifestation mob will tell you to do, but bear with us on this: if you can clearly identity and name the fear, you have a much better chance of slaying it. Whilst it’s hiding behind the door or under the bed, it can seem a lot worse than it is.

Of course there’s another step. Once you have your list, you’ll see you can find solutions to lots of the fears. Write those solutions down too. Some of them might make you feel uncomfortable, or bring up some of your imposters- that’s fine, we will talk about them very soon. For now, get your list sorted.

You might also find out another tricky little fact: some of those dreams are simply that: dreams. Things that you like to think about and noodle your mind over when you are daydreaming, but not things you want to take action on. That’s totally fine, you can make yourself a dream board, create a file on your computer or flip to the back of your notebook and file them under the heading: dreams. You are now free to stop beating yourself up over that fact that you never take action on these ones. They are just fun little by-roads you wander down in your mind. Once you decide that, they won’t distract you from your real path.

Try this next step of the Night Night Project today. We all know that there is something primal and compelling about scary things. We have all slowed down to look at the car crash at least once. We have all gotten a little titillated by someone else’s drama at some stage. Perhaps we have even created challenges for ourselves just to see if we can handle them. This is nothing to be ashamed of: it’s a human function to want to look scary shit in the eye and say, “You’re not so bad. I’ve got this. I can handle myself in the face of fear.” In fact, our neurology is primed to do it.

Let’s have it chicks: let’s look at those dreams, decide which one you want, name what you’re scared of, and dream up how you’re gonna slay that little beast… And remember, we are right here, ready to help.
