Quick Click #24: Slaying The Imposter

Bonjour from Pareee (that’s me speaking French- Al).

As some of you might have guessed from our repeated announcements, we are posting this to you all the way from the Northern Hemisphere. It’s safe to say we are just a little excited.

The reason for the excitement, is not just a bubbly junket to Veuve (although that may be part of it), it’s because this trip represents something different to both of us, but with the same thing underpinning it: we have slain our imposters.

You may have heard of The Imposter Syndrome, and in fact you might sometimes go and visit this state from time to time. Basically, it’s when you feel like you aren’t actually “all that”. Perhaps you might be showing all the bright and shiny parts of yourself on Instagram, but really you feel dull. The debilitating thing with imposter syndrome is the fear that we might get caught out.

Over the years (and with all of the strategies we are bringing to you here in The Clique) we have both been working on our own challenges with our inner imposters.

As you know, this month is all about The New You, and we believe that in order to really renew, we need to handle that little voice of doubt the creeps in just when you think you are ready to step into a new realm. Perhaps it’s a new role you’d love to take on at work, or a shift in the way you look after your physical body. It might even be to go on a new adventure. Whatever it is, if you don't kill off that bloody imposter, you’ll doubt yourself or potentially sabotage yourself, and you’ll definitely spoil all the fun.

Women often tell us they are almost unable to dream new dreams without the voice of the imposter whispering in their ear, and preventing them from admitting what they really want in life. Or perhaps the dreaming part isn’t a problem for you, but just when you get started that whisper becomes a yell and you retreat back to the safety of the old you. The safe patterns. The stable place.

We will chat to you in more detail on our own imposters on the podcast, but for now we would love you to have a think about where you might be cutting yourself off before you even get started, through the fear of being seen as something different.

Let’s get our swords out ladies, and leave a vanquished trail of imposters in our wake. It’s time.
